Ordering

How do I order?

We offer two different ways to begin the ordering process at DeskTop Labels™ based on whether you are a New or Existing Online Customer. To begin this process you need to navigate to the layout screen that lets you add boxes or bulk sheets to your order. Find the label layout you would like to order and then click on it, you will then be brought to a screen where you'll see a larger layout of that item you wish to order. Please be sure to verify the box quantity of the item you wish to purchase.

Note: Not all of our items are packaged in 25, 50, 70, or 100 sheet boxes.

Note: Every item is available in 1000 SHEET BOXES!

Existing Online Customers: You can log into your established DeskTop Labels™ account. If you accepted cookies when setting up your account our system will know that you're here.

Just begin adding boxes or bulk sheets to your order and our system will do the rest. If our system does not recognize you, it will ask you to log in or set up a new account with us.

New Online Customers: If you are a new customer and/or have never been to our site, you can start by adding boxes or bulk sheets to your order. Our system will then ask you to establish a new account.

We send out all invoices within 24 hours of the order. Failure to pay within a timely manner will result in late fees added on to the bill. The customer assumes these billing terms when purchasing with credit.

How may I get a quick shipping quote?

You may obtain an online shipping quote by:

  1. Selecting your product(s).
  2. Creating a new account or logging into your existing account.

Taxable States?

DeskTop Labels™ currently charges sales tax for customers in:

  • Minnesota

We are required to charge sales tax in these states because our parent company Meyers Printing Companies, Inc. has a sales rep working within these states. DeskTop Labels™ does not have a distribution outlet within these states, all orders must be placed online.

I'm Tax Exempt in a Taxable State. How do I order?

All online orders shipped to a taxable state will incur that state's highest sales tax rate. You will not be able to enter a tax exempt number online.

To order from a taxable state using your tax exempt number, please contact customer service at 1-800-241-9730 ext. 4. Be prepared to fax a copy of your tax exempt certificate to 763-531-5764.

Permanent Laser Labels

I need labels to label the products I sell

DeskTop Labels™ recommends using the Permanent Paper Labels for product labels. They come in many sizes. If a more elegant, professional look is desired, the Polyester Labels may do the trick. Gloss label material is now available for both Laser and Inkjet printers.

What are the labels made of?

The Permanent Laser Labels are a paper based label with an acrylic emulsion adhesive. These are some of the finest labels of their kind in the industry. They work great in both inkjet and laser printers. Many of our customers have commented that our labels are best around because they print well and do not fall off.

Laser and Inkjet Printer compatible?

Absolutely! We recommend trying a sample sheet in your printer before printing a job. Please feel free to contact a DeskTop Labels™ Rep for a sample sheet.

What surfaces can you apply Laser Labels to?

The Permanent Laser Labels work great on all types of surfaces that require a permanent label. Customers have used the labels for thousands of applications, from mailing and shipping labels, to product ID labels, to barcoding, to signs, to CD labels, and on and on. We use thousands of these labels in our warehouse to identify and barcode our stock items and raw materials. If you are looking for a label that will withstand the harshest of weather conditions (water, frost, or heat) DeskTop Labels™ recommends you check out the Polyester Labels.

Polyester Laser Labels

Do you have a label that will work outdoors?

Our Polyester Labels are great for outdoor applications. They work in environments where a durable label is needed. Simple black and white laser printing is all that is needed to produce a high quality label. Please view the Technical Data Sheet to view the extreme conditions that these labels have been exposed to under laboratory testing.

What are uses for the Polyester Labels?

Mailing labels, Shipping labels, Routing labels, Hazardous Waste labels, Product labels, Barcode labels, Bumper Sticker labels, Glass labels, Indoor labels, Outdoor labels, Signs, Fancy Invitation labels, Warranty labels, Naval Battleship labels,  Army Apache Helicopter labels. Asset Tag labels, Wine Bottle labels. Beef Jerky labels, Candle Product labels, Oil Drum labels, Freezer labels, Boat labels, Trailer labels, and many, many more...

Let us know if you have a unique use for our Polyester Labels.

Why does the Polyester Material work so well with Laser Printers?

The Polyester material (8800 Series) has a specially designed face coat that is made to anchor laser toner. This face coat contributes to the ability to repel water, heat, and cold.

I want the 8850, 8821, 8810, or 8806 in Color

Let's say you would like a stock size in a Polyester Label in a specific color that is not listed in the website. DeskTop Labels™ may be able to handle this request. For a mimimum order of 3000 sheets, we can go on press for this amount and do a custom flood coat of the Polyester Stock. We can mix and match many standard colors.

Polyester with Inkjet Printers?

Inkjet Printers and our Polyester material do not work well together. The reason for this is the liquid based ink from an inkjet printer is unable to penetrate the surface of this non-porous material. You will find the ink smearing as soon as the sheet is moved or touched. Laser Printers work great with the Polyester Labels.

Polyester Labels with Color Laser Printers?

Many customers have printed successfully on the Polyester Label material with Color Laser Printers. For optimal print quality it may be necessary to adjust settings on your laser printer. When printing polyester labels, we recommend all laser printers be set to the "Label" setting. Due to variability in printer settings and conditions we also recommend referring to your laser printer manual for further detail.

We encourage you to test our product with your printer type before purchasing a box from us. To request a sample, click here. Specify the stock item number and please remember to provide us with your mailing address.

Repositionable/Removable Labels

How would you describe this adhesive?

The Repositionable/Removable Labels possess a relatively tacky adhesive for a removable label. Expect the label to stick like a permanent label to many surfaces, including coated plastic surfaces. The great thing about the adhesive is the ability to take the label off cleanly, with no residue. However, when left on paper surfaces, for extended periods of time, these labels may exhibit some permanent qualities. It is important to always test these labels on your surface you are applying them to.

What surfaces can you apply the Repositionable/Removable labels to?

You may apply the Repositionable Labels to many types of surfaces, including paper, plastic and metal surfaces. We encourage that you to test the labels for adhesion quality to the surface you plan to affix the label to.

Radiant Labels

What are some common uses for Radiant Labels?

Radiant Neon/Fluorescent Color Labels are designed to attract attention to the labels. Here are some possible uses:

  • Marketing - You may want a label to attract the customer's attention. However, you may want to warn the customer that they may need sunglasses to view these labels.

  • Special Instructions (routing) - You may have a product that requires instructions to be followed carefully. These labels work better than a highlighting pen.

  • Product Labels - that will stand out and be noticed.

  • Inventory Control - or perishable goods and materials. Why not print out the run or good-thru dates on Radiant labels for quick spotting?

  • And Many More - Please let us know if you have a unique use for the Radiant Labels.

What printers will work with the Radiant Labels?

Radiant Labels will work in both Laser and Inkjet Printers. We strongly recommend printing with black ink only on these colored labels.

Because of differences in feed, delivery systems, etc., it is the responsibility of the user to test diecut material to assure compatibility with their specific model printer in its operating environment.

To request a sample of this material click here to E-mail us your mailing address and which stock numbers you would like sent to you.

What surfaces does this label work on?

The Radiant Neon/Fluorescent labels are a permanent adhesive paper based labels. You can use these labels on any surface you would use a permanent label on.

If you are looking for a water resistant colored label that works on metals, please see the Polyester Labels.

Printing and Printer Issues

How do I know if your sheets will work in my printer?

DeskTop Labels™ sheets are rated for most laser and inkjet printers. It's critical that you know what type of printer you have (see your printer manual).

Because of differences in feed, delivery systems, etc. it is the responsibility of the user to test die-cut material to assure compatibility with their specific model printer in its operating environment.

To request a sample click here to E-mail Customer Service. Please include your mailing address and which stock numbers you would like sent to you.

How do I stop wasting my label sheets while testing my design?

DeskTop Labels™ will send you enough samples to test your labels. To prevent wasted printing of label sheets, we recommend that you print on plain paper first to make sure your template is lining up properly. When you are satisfied that the template lines up properly, print on your label samples. You might even want to trace the label pattern on plain paper to produce a paper copy.

For more extensive label testing, we recommend you purchase a box or two. We have express (overnight, two day) shipping options available.

DeskTop Labels and Copiers

DeskTop Labels™ does not recommend using labels in your copier machine.

Bulk Packaging

Why do the Polyester Labels come in 250 sheet bulk packs?

Polyester Labels come in either the 50 sheet primary boxes or 250 sheet bulk packs. We do not package the Polyester Labels in larger boxes. This is due to a technical recommendation from 3M™.

Bulk packaging vs. Standard Packaging

High volume customers prefer bulk packaging. Individual customers prefer the 25, 50, 70 and 100 sheet DeskTop Labels™ standard packaging.

DeskTop Labels™ boxes are good for smaller labeling projects, generally under a 1000 sheets at a time.

Bulk boxes are best suited for when you need 1000 sheets or more. Bulk pricing is based on a per sheet price.

Custom Printing

What is the minimum order for Custom Printing?

The minimum order for custom printing is 2000 sheets.

Why are the Custom Run minimums so high?

DeskTop Labels™ requires a 2000 sheet minimum for all custom runs because all custom runs are produced on commercial size printing presses that can run millions of the highest quality sheets. We do have the ability to run small orders, but due to the high setup charges for a large press, many customers prefer the 2000 sheet level pricing.

What if I only need a few labels?

DeskTop Labels™ suggest that you purchase one box of labels from us and print the labels yourself. You can use your label templates in Microsoft Word, or if you have labeling software, we recommend that you use it.

What is a die?

A die is a tool used on a printing press to cut the raw label material as we're converting it into label sheets. For special custom jobs, a one time die charge will be charged to the job. If you order a custom die from us DeskTop Labels™ will maintain the life of die at no additional cost to you the customer.

The cost of a die depends upon the:

  1. Label material (Polyester Labels require a more expensive rotary die)
  2. Number of die cuts per sheet (the more labels - the more expensive)
  3. Special cuts (for example...round cuts are more expensive)
  4. Special Sheet sizes

A die cost is a one time purchase only for the customer. DeskTop Labels™ stores your die at our printing facility and retools it for each subsequent order at no cost! If your die goes dull due to excessive wear, we will replace the die at no cost to you.

What if I need an Ultra High Performance Label?

Do you know the performance difference between labels made from Polypropylene and Polyester? We do.

Do you know the performance difference between Rubber Based and Acrylic Adhesive? We do.

Our parent, Meyers Label, is a Six-Sigma company (40 green belts) ISO 9001 (2000 standard) certified organization. Meyers sales engineers work every day with companies such as 3M and Hewlett Packard to design and manufacture labels for some of the most demanding applications in the world.

For further information or a custom label quote, please contact us at: request@desktoplabels.com or (800) 241-9730

Label Care/ Storage

How should I store the labels?

DeskTop Labels™ recommends that all labels be kept in their plastic bag until time of printing. Prolonged exposure to air with many types of label sheets may result in curling. Also, please reduce the amount of curve that a label sheet experiences during printing. We recommend that all label sheets be fed through the manual, or straight feed.

How long can I store unused labels?

DeskTop Labels™ recommends using your printed labels within the first year of purchase.
